What should I do after an accident that wasn't my fault?
Make sure everyone is safe and call 000 if anyone is hurt. Swap names, phone numbers, addresses, rego and insurer details with the other driver, take photos of both cars and the scene, and don't admit fault. Lodge the claim to get a claim number, then call us on 03 8774 5785.
Do I pay an excess if I wasn't at fault?
Usually not, if the other driver is identified and insured, because the cost is recovered from their insurer. Some insurers ask for the excess upfront and refund it once they recover the money. We'll check how your claim is set up.
Can I choose who repairs my car?
In most not-at-fault claims, and under many comprehensive policies, you can nominate your own repairer. Tell your insurer you'd like SS Automotive to do the repair, or give us your claim number and we'll take it from there.
Will I get a replacement car?
If you weren't at fault, we organise a replacement car once the claim paperwork is finalised and you drop your car off, so you can keep driving while yours is repaired. Call us and we'll confirm what applies to your claim.
What if the other driver or their insurer is slow to respond?
Give us the claim number. We follow up with the insurer for you and keep you updated, so the repair isn't left waiting on the other side.
